Grace
The most common understanding of the word grace is God’s unmerited favour. Even when we were sinners, deserving judgment, God looked upon us in love and forgave us.
Grace can also mean God’s enabling power. Lets come to 2 Thess 2 vs 16-17. “Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God even our father which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through GRACE, comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.” Not only does his grace make us accepted into the family of God, but it also provides the power we need to live the Christian life.
Two scriptures indicate the two aspects of God’s grace in every believer. Lets come to Ephesians 2 v 8-9 where it reads “For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God not of works, lest any man should boast”. Yes, brothers and sisters, the church in Antioch prayed that the grace of God be upon Paul and Barnabas and later on Paul and Silas as they set out on their missionary journeys. Acts 14:26 “And thence sailed to Antioch from whence they had been recommended to the GRACE of God for the work which they fulfilled”.
So in our relationship with God as we walk with him each day we meet situations that would try to overwhelm us. Our response to God is to trust His Word. We express our trust through obedience. This proves we believe what God says despite what the circumstances might indicate, because God’s response to our faith is His grace.
Lets conclude with Hebrews 4:16 where it reads “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need” AMEN.
