God Never Gave Up

ADAM

In Genesis we read that, God created man in His own image. He put Adam in the Garden of Eden, and gave him a command. Adam broke that command which was sin against God. After Adam saw that he had done shame to God, he hid himself, but God showed His love and sought him out (Genesis 3:9). If God had behaved like a man, He would have destroyed Adam and Eve, but He gave them clothes (verse 21). He also showed His great mercy by granting Adam a son, after Cain killed Abel.

NOAH

When the earth was filled with very sinful people, God was vexed. He saw that He had to destroy them all. But He saw that Noah was a kind and right man, and in His mercy He saved Noah and his family and many animals. God did not give up.

EGYPT

When the Israelites were in Egypt, God was fulfilling His promise to Abraham when He said that Abraham’s descendants would be strangers in a country not their own. They were enslaved and ill-treated for 400 years:”I will deliver them and give them great possessions (Genesis 15:13,14). God delivered the Israelites through Moses, after about 430 years. God never gave up on the Israelites.

AT THE DESERT OF SIN

When the Israelites were at the desert of Sin after their departure from Egypt, they grumbled at Moses: “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt for us to die in the desert?” They were really grumbling at God. But God forgave them and provided them with water (Exodus 17:3,6). When God gave them water, He was showing that He never gives up.

GOLDEN CALF

Moses went up with Joshua to Mount Sinai for forty days and forty nights to be given God’s laws. But the Israelites thought that Moses would not come back and made an idol. God was angry and told Moses that He would destroy the whole nation of Israel, and make a new nation from Moses. But Moses cried to God to forgive them (Exodus 32:9-14).

FURTHER SINS

Later, the spies brought an evil report about the Promised Land, and Korah led a rebellion against God Himself. But in spite of these continuing forms of gross disobedience, God never gave up.
