Reward of the Conquerors
“To those who by patience in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, He will give eternal life.” As it tells us in this statement of the apostle Paul to the Romans, eternal life is something which we are to seek in order to have it, and not something which is inherent to us. The faithful in Hebrews 11:13 are mentioned to confirm that they all died in faith, not having the things promised, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth. We may ask, how were they strangers and exiles on the earth? In fact, the measure of men’s days is a few hands breadths. True, life is short because all men are under the law of sin and death. Our forerunners in faith were seeking the city that is to come, the new Jerusalem from above whose builder is not man, but God. Mind you, it was their faith in God that made them strangers and exiles on the earth - and so they belonged to heavenly citizenship, because it is in heaven where the seat of heavenly government is located, but its citizens, the saints, will be co-rulers with Christ on earth.
Again, let us have another look at Hebrews 11:39-40, “And all these, though commended through their faith, did not receive what was promised, since God had provided something better for us, that apart from us they should not be made perfect.” Many of us are aware that eternal life is something God is promising us through the work of God’s only begotten son, Jesus. Therefore the reward for all the conquerors in this life through their faith will be rewarded together, after being successful at the judgement seat of Christ. We are all faced with both life and death. Therefore let us be extra wise by choosing life by leading our lives in line with God’s very own laws.
