The Meaning of Life
“Tell me, please, in just a few words the meaning of life,” one enquired. “How is it that we are here? What’s really going on today? How will everything turn out?” For such, brothers and sisters, we are pleased to share the following from the Bible:
God is great, good, loving, without beginning and without ending, the great Creator of all things. He sent forth His only begotten Son. The Son always recognized his Father as greater than himself, and has always been subject to Him. The Creator brought forth all other living things.Adam was created “a living soul” in God’s image and was without sin until tested. He had only the potential of everlasting life, which was dependent upon his obedience to God.
The man failed the simple test of obedience and was condemned to death: “In the day that thou eatest thereof (of the forbidden fruit), dying thou shalt die”.
Death means the extinction of life: “The soul that sinneth, it shall die” and had it not been for the redemption which God had planned man in death would have become as if he had not been.
Subsequently, God gave instruction and promises to Abraham regarding the blessing of all the families of the earth through Abraham’s seed.God dealt in a special way with Abraham’s posterity, which became a nation called Israel to which He made additional promises by a covenant with Moses as its mediator.
These ancients to whom God revealed Himself had a faith which pleased God they believed that God is, and that God is a rewarder of them that serve Him.
In due time God sent forth His Son, made flesh by birth to Mary.
He was called Jesus. He was without sin, although tempted in all points like us, but never failed, he lived among men, worshipped only God, preached the Kingdom of God, was crucified on a cross and was raised on the third day.
All who (1) receive knowledge, (2) accept God’s truths, (3) hold in their hearts the message of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ, (4) endeavour as “the light of the world” to faithfully walk in the steps of Jesus, and (5) have been baptised by immersion into Christ, are members of the church of Christ, members of his body. At Jesus’ return the responsible living and resurrected dead will be judged and rewarded according to their deeds and those found worthy will be given eternal life in the Kingdom of God.
