Live by faith

In applying any lesson to ourselves, we have to learn to face our fears and not allow them to degenerate into nagging worries, like true men and women of God, we are to be brave for God.  There is a saying, “Worry is a thin trickle of fear passing through the mind into which all other thoughts are drained.”

We all have fears and worries at different stages of life, even the most spiritual man or woman is affected this way, and it includes all the great men of God.  The apostle John said that “perfect love casts out fear” (1 John 4:18).  The Psalmist David offers a concluding thought when he had fallen into Philistine hands in one of their main cities – Gath.  Things looked bad for him, until he lifted up his head to pray to God, and took courage.  This is how he summed up that experience:

“Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in you.  In God (I will praise his word), in God I have put my trust; I will not fear. What can flesh do to me? All day they twist my words: all their thoughts are against me for evil.  They gather together, they hide, they mark my steps, when they lie in wait for my life … When I cry out to you, then my enemies will turn back; this I know, because God is for me… In God I have put my trust; I will not be afraid.  What can man do to me?” (Psalm 56:3-11).
