Forgiveness and Reconciliation

We live in a world in which anger reigns supreme and in which forgiveness is a forgotten virtue. Today it has become fashionable to be a victim so that one can wear one's anger like a badge of honour, a poisoned ornament that sets one apart as somehow special, a sort of knighthood in the kingdom of human darkness.

Reconciliation and forgiveness are much more difficult options than anger but they restore us, victim and perpetrator alike, to a spiritual and psychological health that cannot be achieved until we find peace with those who have hurt us and with whom we have hurt. The message is: let us look into our own hearts and ask ourselves if we are a people of truth and reconciliation. We must be people who live the Gospels ourselves. The Lord says: "If you bring your gift to the altar and there remember that your brother has anything against you, leave your gift at the altar, go and be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift".
