news from mexico
Christmas is widely celebrated in
Mexico. The decorations are elaborate,
but what I mostly enjoy is that the poinsettias are naturally in bloom at
this time and they use them for decoration everywhere. putting them around
monuments and everything. They also grow as large as trees here naturally, so it
is very beautiful. The bougainvilleas are also in full boom in many colours as
well as other blooming trees, so over all there is much colour and beauty in
these winter months.
It was very encouraging to see an
increase in returned lessons during the holiday period. Many students obviously
took this time to devote to their bible studies. We are now up to 150 on the
mailing list for Guadalajara. Not all of these are active, as the first group we
started in July have just received the last of their courses. Lord willing they
will seek to continue with the next series. The exciting news of the month is
that we believe we've secured a site to establish the new Centro Bíblico
Cristadelfiano. It is nicely located three doors down from a street which
carries the major buses which cross through the city. It is also partially
visible from that street, so we will be able to put a sign or banner up which
will be readily seen. It will have sufficient areas to park during our times of
greatest use. It is actually a house which has been used for offices previously.
It will need a little modification, which should be completed in the next couple
of weeks. It has a downstairs living room area, which should be sufficient to
hold our students for classes and out upcoming seminar in March.
Bro Bill
and Sis Carol Rawson will be here from Spain for the entire month,
Carl, Cynthia & Carlie Paiva & Allison Cedarholm.
UN-NAMED COUNTRY FOR SECURITY
REASONS.
Although we have had only one
arrest, the sister involved was released after her defence, the judge expressing
the opinion that we were "no threat to the xxx government." (The man who
reported her preaching to his daughter and friends is now learning the Truth).
Nevertheless we are unregistered as yet and several attempts have been made to
have the police invade our meetings.
