Use Adversity as a Means to Grow
If the Christian faith were able to guarantee that once it was accepted it would bring release from all temptation and hardship, every one would wish to make it their own. Christ and his teaching make no such promise. Indeed, while Christ offered his disciples a new relationship with God, he made it perfectly clear that they would be tempted and experience times of difficulty and hardship.
One of the glorious themes of New Testament Christianity is that through adversity the disciple will grow in grace, and in greater understanding of his Master. The Christian is even urged to rejoice when the way is rough, for in every adverse situation it is possible to prove the all- sufficiency of God.
To be able to confront every difficult situation without squirming or running away requires a positive faith in the purpose and goodness of God. This necessitates a confidence in the living Christ that transcends the fear of the unknown, or of what might happen, and enables followers of Christ to experience the inner joy that comes from living in harmony with their Lord. It is true that if as a Christian, you can grow in spirit when confronted with difficulties and temptations, and your adversities are endured in a positive and constructive way, you will be drawn into a deeper understanding and love for your Lord.
