(Mzuza, Malawi)

According to the Psalmist, the man is blessed because he has no time to waste by walking in the counsel of the wicked, nor standing in the way of sinners, nor sitting in the seat of scoffers, but he does make good use of his time by meditating with delight in God's law day and night. Let us consider God's law to mean the whole Bible, as it was written by God's direct inspiration.

As the Bible was inspired by God, therefore it is spiritual. Jesus spoke to the Samaritan woman and said, "But the hour comes, and now is, when true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth, for such worshippers are those whom the Father seeks. God is spirit, and they that worship Him must worship in spirit and truth" (John 4:23,24).

And so the blessed man having his delight in God's law by meditating in it day and night was taking in his life spiritual food. There are several righteous men in the Bible who had valued the word of God. Job was one of them: "I haven't gone back from the commandment of his lips. I have treasured up the words of his mouth more than my necessary food" (23:12). Again, Jeremiah had this to say: "Your words were found, and I ate them, and your words were unto me the joy and delight of my heart: for I am called by your name Yahweh, God of armies" (15:16).

Therefore is there any one among us who does not require God's blessings? I am sure there is none. Our desire, therefore, is to be like the man blessed in the Psalmist's message. Our friend's delight was in God's law day and night. Why not us?
