The Kingdom of God
The return of the Lord Jesus Christ: in our daily study we read that God brought His people, the Jews, back to their land. The State of Israel was established in 1948 and every day saw more Jews returning to the land of Israel. When will Jesus come to set up God’s kingdom? The disciples asked Jesus this question and he gave some signs to show when his coming is near (Matt 24:3-8)
All these things are happening in the world today. Jesus said that the world will be very wicked (Matthew 24:37-42). The greatest sign that Jesus will soon come is the ‘fig tree’ which is used as a symbol of the nation of Israel (vv 32-34). Jesus foretold the scattering of the Jews into all nations (Luke 21:24). In 1948, half of Jerusalem was given to the Jews as the capital city; the other half of the city belonged to the Arabs. Sometime, many nations will fight against Jerusalem and Israel (Zech 14:2; Ez 38:14-23). Some nations will not accept Christ as king (Psalm 2; Isa 34:1-3). Christ will come suddenly – we must be ready (Luke 17:28-35).
At the resurrection of the dead, those who are responsible will have to stand at the judgement seat of Christ (Dan 12:2: 1 Thes 4:15-17; 2 Cor 5:10), when the Book of Life will be opened (Rev 3:5).
Let us make every effort to please God every day of our lives, and to put first in our lives the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. We pray that we may all be found worthy at that great day of judgment.
