What is Life?

We read in the 1st Epistle of John 5:12: “He who has the Son has life, he who does not have the Son does not have life” (1 John 5:12).  People have defined “life” in many ways.  What of your brothers and sisters?  “When Christ who is your life appears then you also will appear with him in glory” (Col 3:1-4).

Some people say that life is what you make it. Brothers and Sisters, (including me), should not think in that way.  “Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God, the maker of heaven and earth, the sea and everything in them: the Lord who remains faithful for ever” (Psalm 146:5, 6).  Whoever has this attitude to life follows the true God, not ‘life is what you make it’. (See also Eccl 9:5,6; Isaiah 26:19; John 5:28,29).  To define the scriptural word “life”, the Lord Jesus Christ must be included, and this present life is temporary: 1 Corinthians 15:42-44; Philippians 3:20,21; 1 Timothy 4:6-8.  “Defend my cause and redeem me.  Preserve my life according to your promise” (Psalm 119:154; see also vs156, 159). “I have strayed like a lost sheep.  Seek your servant, for I have not forgotten your commands”(v176) and I pray the Lord’s good hands be with you all the time.
