The Absent Lecturer

A lecturer from a University College tells his students, “Class, I am going down the hall for a few minutes. I don’t expect to be away long. I am sure there won’t be any troubles. I trust you will be working on your assignments whilst I am gone”.

Fifteen minutes pass, then 20, then 50. Suddenly, the lecturer returns. John has just thrown an eraser at Carol who is doing her philosophy studies. Steve is exchanging blows with Peter.

The students carrying out the lecturer’s instruction are delighted when the lecturer steps in, but several wished for his continued absence. Brethren and sisters, we are waiting for the return of Christ; the Scriptures promise it and warn us about it. It is good news or bad, depending on who heeds it. Who knows the day or the year? Matthew 24:36 answers this question: “No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels, nor the Son of Man, but only the Father”. So let us all be ready, for at any moment the Master can return.
