Mercy
... is an essential quality of God
T
he sacrifice of His Son to be our Redeemer
shows clearly the outpouring of His love in
mercy. In the Old Testament history of God’s
relationship with His chosen people Israel,
mercy characterized His dealing and His
covenant. That mercy can be understood as
the interaction of God’s strength, steadfast-
ness and love. Mercy and covenant are men-
tioned together in various times, showing
God’s steadfast love for His people. Psalm
25:10 shows the right response of God’s peo-
ple to His mercy. “All the paths of the Lord
are mercy and truth unto such as keep His
covenant and His testimonies.”
