view as web pdf The Love of Money

I would like to talk about the love of money 2 Tim. 3:2, 1 Tim. 6:10. Money itself is a system which is good and efficient, but if your mind is evil, then it can turn you away from obtaining salvation. In 2 Kings 5 verses 20-29, the Bible records Gehazi’s greed. In Matthew 28:12-15 we read that the High Priests and Elders gave soldiers money to lie and say that the apostles stole the body of our Saviour Jesus Christ. Also King Solomon’s riches caused him to turn away from serving the God of Israel. (1 Kings 11:1-13) Verse 6 of this chapter tells us that “Solomon did evil in the sight of the Lord, and did not fully follow the Lord, as did his father David.”

Today we must abstain from evil and only do the will of God. The Children of Israel taken into captivity did not expect to return back to Jerusalem – only a remnant was permitted to return. Therefore we must do the will of God as our Saviour did, and he will give immortality. I admire the work of Ezra and Nehemiah in their stand to serve Yahweh, the God of Israel, against strong opposition. We too must take care about the love of money and the dangers that riches can bring, and remain firm in the Truth.
