Mate (husband and wife)

Marriage teaches us about the love that the Lord Jesus Christ has for His Ecclesia usually translated ‘church,’ “Husbands love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church (ecclesia) and gave himself for her” (Eph 5:25). Our longing for Him says “The Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come!’ And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires let him take of the water of life freely” (Rev 22:17). The fact that mankind consists of two separate sexes, which naturally complement one another, shows us how God’s purpose will only be accomplished when our Lord and his bride will cleave to one another at the great Marriage Feast of the Lamb.

We are told that we have been made in God’s (Heb: elohim) image, and we wonder how this can be, with all our faults and failings, but in the Kingdom to come we will be all-glorious within, and the King will greatly desire our beauty, “My heart is overflowing with a good theme; I recite my composition concerning the King; my tongue is the pen of a ready writer; The royal daughter is all glorious within the palace; her clothing is woven with gold. She shall be brought to the king in robes of many colours; the virgins her companions who follow her shall be brought to you. With gladness and rejoicing they shall be brought; they shall enter the King’s palace.”

“Instead of your fathers shall be your sons, whom you shall make princess in all the earth. I will make your name to be remembered in all generations; therefore the people shall praise you for ever and ever.” May that day come soon.
