You Are the Custodian of God’s Creation

Pollution has become a by-word in today’s society. The news media constantly portrays examples of the manner in which man, in his carelessness or indifference, is gradually destroying the environment. We are being told of damage to sea life through the outflow of sewage; the pure air is stifling in an atmosphere of smog; green fields and the crystal clear river waters are becoming dumping grounds for refuse. Slowly, but surely, the human race is converting God’s creation into a gigantic rubbish dump and the end result of this is obvious.

But pollution does not end there, for it is not confined to things of a tangible nature: standards of life have also become affected. Many people, using progress and this modern age as their excuse, are, as their behaviour deteriorates, deviating from the course of life established and set by Jesus. The language of the gutter is becoming commonplace, permissiveness and the relaxation in moral values are being considered as the norm and honesty and integrity are often considered with amusement, to be old-fashioned.

God created the earth and everything in it and it was good. He created man in His own image and entrusted His creation to mankind. Despite all the failures of the human race, God redeemed believers through the death and resurrection of Jesus. Our duty, as Christians, to preserve the beauty of God’s creation is clear and unequivocal.
