Faith Breeds Perseverance, Courage & Persistence in Christ (Hab. 3:17-19)

Habakkuk, the prophet of the Lord, gives us a word picture of how spoilt and desolate the country was after an attack from their enemies. Nothing was left for the people to eat. All their wealth had gone. Still the prophet does not lose heart. His joy remains in the Lord and His provisions. He has riches, not seen by the eye, heavenly riches from which he cannot be bereaved.

The house of a widow had been burnt down completely and with it, all her possessions were turned to ashes. As one of her neighbours came to offer sympathy, she surprised her by saying, “I praise the Lord because my most precious possession did not burn and I can still make use of that.” Asked what that possession was, the widow answered, “It is the throne of grace. It is still there and that makes me rich”. What a strong faith that woman had!

This old lady had her eye opened to her true riches. She was living by God’s grace, love and care. God henceforth provided for her through her friends and relatives. I am telling you, brothers and sisters, God can really provide for your needs in time of trouble. You just need to cling to His word. “Do not store up for yourselves treasure on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal, but store for yourselves treasure in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy and where thieves do not break and steal” (Matt 6:19,20).

Where is your treasure, brother and sister?
