Biblical Recommendations to Consider

What place does God occupy in our lives? Ecc 12:13 says, “Fear the true God and keep his commandment, for this is the whole obligation of man.”

We have to ask ourselves: Does my life show that? Do I see things that way? Does obedience to God’s commandments determine how I care for responsibilities at home, at work, or at school? Or do other interests or the pressures of life determine whether I set aside time for God?

What connection with God do we have? “Trust in God with all your heart and do not lean upon your own understanding. In all your ways take notice of him, and he himself will make your paths straight” (Pro 3:5,6). It is the Lord your God you must worship, and it is to him alone you must render sacred service (Matt 4:10).

We must ask ourselves: Is that the way we feel about God? Do our everyday activities, as well as the way we deal with crises, demonstrate such trust and devotion?

How important to us is reading and studying the Bible? This means everlasting life, the taking in of knowledge of the only true God and of the one whom he sent forth, Jesus Christ (John 17:3).

We should ask ourselves: Does the place that we give to reading God’s word and thinking deeply on it show that we really believe?

How important to us is attendance at our meetings? “Let us consider one another to incite to love and fine works: not forsaking the gathering of ourselves together… and all the more as you behold the day drawing near” (Heb 10:24,25). “I rejoiced when they were saying to me: To the house of Jehovah let us go” (Psalm 122:1).

We have to ask ourselves: Does the pattern of our lives show appreciation of the direction found in God’s word? During the past month, did we skip any Christian meetings because we let something crowd them out?

Do we have some zealous share in talking to others about God and His coming kingdom? “This good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness … and then the end will come” (Matt 24:14). “Go therefore and make disciples of peoples of all the nations, … teaching them to observe all things I have commanded you” (Matt 28:19,20). “Sing to the Lord and bless his name. From day to day tell the good news of salvation by him” (Psalm 96:2).

We have to ask ourselves: Do these activities really have the place in our lives they deserve? Does our share in them reflect conviction on our part as to the seriousness of the times in which we live?
