Putting Love Into Practice

"My children, love must not be a matter of words or talk, it must be genuine and show itself in action" (1 John 3:18).

In world affairs today we seem to hear constantly of meetings, conferences, seminars and conventions being held to discuss the needs of people and the ills of the world. Thousands of people attend at enormous cost and countless millions of words are spoken. Whilst acknowledging the need for and the advantages of such discussions, we still have the poor, the sick, the hungry, the oppressed and the helpless.

Each and every follower of the living Christ is in a position to do something to alleviate the suffering of others. This may not be on a grand scale, and in all probability will not compare with international needs. However, every act of Christian charity will do something to ease the overwhelming burden being borne by the under privileged.

One needs to prepare oneself in prayer and meditation and, having sought God’s will, then to move out amongst His people, there to minister to their needs.
